Your Garbage ServiceLast modified: November 10, 2009 - 8:38 AM
All about your red-lidded garbage bin
Council provides a weekly waste collection service to residential and commercial properties. Properties receive a 240 litre red-lidded bin. Your garbage bin is for domestic use only. Council recommends that you contact our Customer Service Centre on 4987 7997 to find out what day your bin is collected.
Your garbage is taken to the Bedminster Composting Plant at Raymond Terrace where the organic portion (food scraps, green waste etc) is processed into compost. The compost is used as a resource by landscapers and turf farmers to increase the organic matter and fertility of the soil. As we use this process, it is important that the items listed below are NOT disposed of in your garbage bin.
Community sharps such as needles and lancets
To find out the correct disposal method for each of these wastes download the Wicked Waste directory available below.
Correct Bin Etiquette
Placing your bins out on the kerb is simple enough, but like most things there are some tips. Presenting your bin correctly not only allows us to provide a quicker and quieter service, it also ensures that your bin is emptied every time. To find out more about bin etiquette download the fact sheet available below. New Services / Extra Services

A lot of our waste can actually be reused or recycled, for example old furniture and working appliances. These can be dropped off at the Salamander Bay Refuse and Reuse Centre. By reusing or recycling out waste we reduce the amount of waste going to landfill. The Salamander Bay Reuse Centre is a community operated facility located at 360 Soldiers Point Rd, Salamander Bay, Ph – 4984 6244 Contact details
