Decommissioning and Re-use of Septic Tanks
Last modified: July 2, 2007 - 3:56 PM
What can I do with a redundant septic tank?
If your property is now connected to a reticulated sewer system or you have installed a new wastewater treatment system then your old septic tank will no longer be required. You can: - Decommission the old septic tank in accordance with Council's Fact Sheet #6; OR
- Reuse the septic tank for the storage of non-potable water in accordance with Council's Fact Sheet #7. An application is required to be submitted to Council prior to conversion of the tank. The application form is available for download from this page. Remember that water stored in old septic tanks are for irrigation purposes only and not for drinking.
If your property is connected to a reticulated sewer system remember to inform Council so that you are removed from the Approval to Operate database.
