PSC081 - Development Planner

Become part of a team who  provide a high level of professional service to Council and the community with respect to the development and use of land who focus on building community partnerships to deliver the best possible outcomes.

 

If you understand how planning decisions and development occurs and want to play your part in shaping the future of Port Stephens then this is an exciting opportunity offering to expand your professional planning career. The position is responsible for the carrying out of a large number of town planning activities within Council's Sustainable Planning Group, with the role primarily responsible for assessing development applications and undertaking other related planning tasks within the Development & Building Section.

SELECTION CRITERIA (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & CAPABILITIES) 

  • Degree qualifications in planning or associated equivalent;
  • Demonstrated experience in development assessment;
  • A comprehensive knowledge of contemporary development and building issues including demonstrated knowledge of Local Government Act, Environmental Planning and Assessment Act, Building Code of Australia and related legislation;
  • Demonstrated commitment to a customer service culture and delivery of quality service;
  • Understanding of the Australian Business Excellence philosophy;
  • Demonstrated capacity to develop, implement and maintain up to date Council plans which integrate relevant Council policy, planning and decision making framework;
  • Demonstrated conduct that demonstrates to others Councils commitment to Safety, Excellence, Teamwork, Respect and Integrity;
  • Demonstrated capacity to influence and convince others in the pursuit or achievement of specific and set objectives;
  • Demonstrated facilitation skills;
  • Demonstrated well developed written, oral and presentation communication skills;
  • Demonstrated skills in negotiation, problem solving and conflict resolution to enable effective liaison with people at all levels;
  • Class C drivers licence
  • Competence in relevant PC applications;
  • Familiarity with local government processes, practices and systems including Civica 'Authority' system is desirable.

Salary Range: $919.91 - $1,082.24 per week plus super.
