LGMA Excellence Awards for website

Port Stephens Council is committed to listening, learning and responding to our employees and we think outside the square to find new ways to support our workforce. In 2008, Port Stephens Council in consultation with employees developed and implemented The Port Stephens Council Enterprise Agreement 2008. This agreement centres on providing career opportunities with greater flexibility in workplace practices, eliminating discrimination, encouraging and celebrating success while maintaining a strong focus on a healthy work/ life balance.

Achieving this agreement used a non-traditional industrial relations approach which delivered a great outcome for employees and Council. Deputy President Harrison of the NSW Industrial Relations Commission has described our Workplace Enterprise Agreement as “innovative” and “an exemplar for other councils”

Our management and implementation of the Workplace Enterprise Agreement was recognised with the Port Stephens Council being awarded the 2009 LGMA NSW Management Excellence Award, Rural Councils category.
